MCHS Tigers, CCHS Eagles win; Tigers' tourney schedule adjusted

MORGAN CITY — The Morgan City High School Tigers and the H.L. Bourgeois Braves scored all of their runs in the sixth inning as the Tigers came away with a 2-1 victory in the opening round of the A&E Basin Bengal Classic Thursday.

H.L. Bourgeois plated a single run in the top of the sixth inning, while Morgan City scored two in the bottom of the frame.

Brady Fryou and Josh Glatter recorded Morgan City’s only hits as Fryou finished 2-for-3, while Glatter was 1-for-3.

Nicholas Spinella earned the win for Morgan City as he pitched seven innings and surrendered an unearned run on four hits. He hit one batter and struck out eight.

In other tournament action Thursday, Vandebilt Catholic defeated Central Lafourche 13-1.

In today’s action in Morgan City (1-0), Vandebilt Catholic will play Thibodaux at 3 p.m., Morgan City will meet Welsh at 6 p.m. and Ellender and Thibodaux will play at 8:30 p.m.

In Berwick, Assumption will play H.L. Bourgeois at 3 p.m. and Central Lafourche will play Berwick at 6 p.m.

On Saturday in Morgan City, Assumption will play Welsh at 9 a.m., Morgan City will meet Thibodaux at 11:30 a.m., Central Lafourche and Morgan City at 2 p.m. and Ellender and Welsh at 4:30 p.m.

In Berwick, Vandebilt Catholic will play Berwick at 9 a.m.; Ellender will meet H.L. Bourgeois at 11:30 a.m. and Assumption will play Berwick at 2 p.m.

Central Catholic rallies

to beat Westgate

Central Catholic scored four runs in the third inning and added another in the fifth as it rallied from a 4-1 deficit for a 6-4 victory in its opening game of the Patterson Tournament.

Charlie Barron led the Eagles (1-0) with a 2-for-2 performance with two RBIs and a run, while Barron Courtney and Ryan Ratcliff each went 1-for-2 with an RBI, while Courtney scored two runs.

Other top contributors included Dominick Guarisco, 1-for-1 with an RBI and Bryson Barbier, 2-for-3 with a run.

On the mound, Samuel Guarisco got the win as he surrendered four earned runs on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts in five innings of work.

Barbier pitched the final two innings and struck out five.

EDW shuts out Patterson

E.D. White scored all of its runs in the fifth through seventh innings in a 6-0 win against Patterson High Thursday in opening play of the Patterson tournament.

E.D. White scored two runs in the fifth, three in the sixth and another in the seventh.

Neither team generated much of a hitting game as E.D. White pitcher Scott Szush limited Patterson to five hits, while Patterson’s trio of Cameron Fontenot, Bryce Tabor and Chase Martin limited a combined six hits.

Szush earned the complete-game victory as he struck out 10.

Fontenot was tagged with the loss as he surrendered three runs (two earned) on three hits with three walks and a strikeout in five innings of work.

Spencer Landry, Bryce Tabor, Fontenot, Taylor Harris and Dallas Hamlett all finished 1-for-3 for Patterson.

The Lumberjacks (0-1) will return to action today when they host East St. John at 3:15 p.m. in Patterson.

In other action, Calvary Baptist will open play at 5:30 p.m. against Mamou, while E.D. White will play Mamou at 7:45 p.m.

In Amelia, South Lafourche will play St. Martins at 5:30 p.m.

In Franklin, Westgate will play Hanson at 6 p.m.
