MCHS sets 'Pink' softball game

The Morgan City High School softball team has dedicated its home softball doubleheader against Zachary on March 24 at Magee Park as its “Softball for Awareness” game, an event to promote breast cancer education, awareness and fundraising.

The games will be held at noon and 2 p.m., and activities are planned between each game.

The goal is for all proceeds from donations, pink T-shirt sales and game admissions to be used to benefit St. Mary Parish residents who suffer from this disease.

T-shirts commemorating the event will be sold through Monday. The T-shirt order form, which is in today’s Daily Review, should be completed and returned to Morgan City High School or any MCHS softball player.

Shirts are $10 apiece and are available in sizes from youth small to Adult XXXL.

Those who wear the pink T-shirts to the event will receive free admission to the games.

In 2010, MCHS collected more than $2,262.

While in the past, the school has partnered with the bayou affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, this year, to ensure the funds help those cancer patients in St. Mary Parish, proceeds will be donated to the Sallie Astor Burdine Foundation, which partners with OncoLogics and Miles Perret Cancer Services. These are non-profit organizations that offer various services to local breast cancer patients. Services include gas cards for transportation to treatment sites, wigs, bras, prosthetics, nutritional supplements and medication cards. All proceeds will be designated for St. Mary Parish residents who receive services from these two organizations.

Those wishing to contribute to the fundraising efforts can do so by encouraging fellow employees to attend the March 24 softball game and buy the pink T-shirts.

Citizens also can help out by becoming a sponsor. Many levels of sponsorship are available.

Sponsorship levels include $500 Ribbon for the Cure, $200 Hit for the Cure, $100 Pitch for the Cure, and $50 Score for the Cure.

All four level of sponsorship come with listing as a co-sponsor for the T-shirt, and event day signage.

Those who have a $500 sponsorship will receive six Softball for the Cure T- shirts, while those with $200, $100 and $50 sponsorships will receive four, two and one Softball for the Cure T-shirts, respectively.

Sponsorships will underwrite the overall costs of the event and for the T-shirts.

Sponsorship checks should be made payable to “Softball Awareness” and mailed to 2400 Tiger Drive, Morgan City, LA. 70380.
