MC 3-year-old hit by car, transfrred to Baton Rouge

The Morgan City Police Department is investigating a traffic crash in which a toddler was struck by a vehicle. It occurred at 7:35 p.m. Saturday near Fifth and Kentucky streets.

Napolian Webb, 3, of Railroad Avenue, Morgan City, was struck by a vehicle. The driver, Quentin Cooper, 21, of Poncio Street, Morgan City, said that he was travelling south on Fifth Street when he observed the child run out in front of his vehicle. Cooper attempted to avoid the accident by veering to the right side of the road, but still struck the child.

As is normal procedure in serious injury crashes, Cooper was taken to MCPD where he submitted both a drug screen and a breath sample for intoxication. The breath sample indicated no alcohol in his system. The drug sample was sent to the state crime lab for testing.

Webb was treated for serious injuries at Teche Regional Medical Center and was later transferred to the Baton Rouge Pediatric Neurosurgery Center for further evaluation. The investigation is continuing.

Mark Rentrop Jr., 20, and Erick Brunner, 29, were also arrested by MCPD Saturday at 3:48 a.m.

Rentrop, 20, of Highway 663, Bayou L’Ourse, was arrested for contributing to the delinquency of juveniles and possession of alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle. Brunner, 29, of Melissa Street, Labadieville, was arrested for contributing to the delinquency of juveniles, fugitive warrants from St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office on charges of aggravated assault and simple criminal damage to property.

Officers were called to the Circle K store for a disturbance. Upon arrival, they learned that Brunner and Rentrop were causing a disturbance. Inside the vehicle, officers located alcohol and three juveniles, ages 11 to 15. A call was made to the children’s parents, who advised that the kids were supposed to be staying at a friend’s house in Bayou L’Ourse and were not allowed to be out at that time of the morning. Brunner and Rentrop were booked and incarcerated with no bond set.

The MCPD also reports the following arrests over the weekend.

—Bernie Williams, 48, of Louisa Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 3:29 p.m. Sunday for simple battery. He is alleged to have punched a nurse after he refused to let her treat him. Booked and incarcerated with no bond set.

—Jean McCauley, 51 of Cypress St., Morgan City, was arrested at McDonald’s at 5:19 p.m. Sunday and charged with hit and run driving after she struck a vehicle in the Walgreen’s parking lot and then left the scene. Released after posting bond of $682.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests over the weekend, according to Sheriff Mark Hebert:

—A female juvenile, 14, was arrested at 6:56 p.m. Friday for resisting an officer by giving false information in reference to a juvenile shoplifting at the Wal-Mart in Bayou Vista. Arrested and released to mother pending juvenile court proceedings.

—Kyle Keegan, 36, of Hwy 182 East, Morgan City, was arrested at 5:45 p.m. Saturday on warrants for forgery, theft, attempted theft and a failure to appear on possession of Schedule II narcotics. Arrested after turning himself in after learning of warrants for his arrest and booked into the parish jail with no bond set.

—Jennifer J. Lodrigue, 30, of Darlene Street, Patterson, was arrested at her residence at 10:10 p.m. Saturday on warrants for issuing worthless checks. Issued a summons to appear in court on Sept. 12.

—Gerardin M. Perez, 35, of Village Lane, Amelia, was arrested at 2:16 a.m. Sunday in Amelia for no driver’s license and careless operation of a vehicle with an accident. He struck a mailbox with his vehicle. Issued a summons to appear in court on Sept. 12.

—Marvin Dinger, 68, and Diana Dinger, 57, both of Homestead Lane, Patterson, were arrested at 8:28 p.m. Sunday for domestic abuse battery. Both were booked into the parish jail with no bond set.

—Charlie S. Whittaker, 26, of North Winrock Street, Liberty Lake, Wash., was arrested near the Amelia Belle Casino at 11:30 p.m. Sunday for careless operation of a motor vehicle and driving under suspension. Issued a summons to appear in court on Sept. 12.

The Patterson Police Department reports the following arrests over the weekend, according to Chief Patrick M. LaSalle:

—Craig Nini, 31, of Toups Street, Berwick, was arrested at Acme Truck Line and U.S. 90 at 6:44 a.m. Sunday for speeding, expired driver’s license, and no registration certificate in vehicle. Incarcerated with bond set at $532.

—Mario Morales, 53, of Gabriel Street, Patterson, was arrested on Gabriel Street at 10:49 p.m. Sunday for speeding and not having a driver’s license. Released after paying fine of $388.

—Andre Jones, 43, of West Main Street, Patterson, was arrested near Cherry and Ellis streets at 12:13 a.m. today on warrants from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office for possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal neglect of family. Remains incarcerated with a $43,494 bond.

The Berwick Police Department reports one arrest over the weekend, according to Chief James Richard:

—Renee Cothron, 47, Faith Street, Morgan City, arrested Friday 10:46 a.m. on Fifth Street in Berwick on a warrant from district court in Franklin for failure to appear. Transferred to the parish jail in Centerville.
