Marine Safety Unit Morgan City Chance of Command ceremony scheduled

MORGAN CITY, La. -- The United States Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Morgan City change of command will take place at 10 a.m. June 13, at the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium in Morgan City, La.

Capt. Jonathan C. Burton, Office in Charge, Marine Inspection, said, “The change of command ceremony is a time-honored tradition formally restating the continuity of the authority of command. It is a formal ritual conducted before the assembled company of the command as well as honored guests and dignitaries. The change of command itself is a transfer of total responsibility and authority from one individual to another.

“For the past three years, it has been my distinct pleasure and honor to work with so many professional members of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, the maritime industry and citizens of the surrounding parishes and communities. While we have made every effort to ensure the completeness of our invitation list, there always remains the possibility that we may have accidentally overlooked someone who should be part of this important event. To that end, I extend an open invitation to all of my friends, professional colleagues and partners to join MSU Morgan City as Captain David G. McClellan relieves me as Commanding Officer of the Coast Guard’s finest field unit.”
