Man rams Baldwin storefront
A Baldwin man is jailed after inexplicably ramming a truck through the entrance of a local store, police say.
Chief Gerald Minor said Danny Ray Mitchell, 32, of 109 Lockley St., Baldwin, was arrested Wednesday on charges of hit and run, first degree vehicular injuring, suspended driver’s license and criminal damage to property. Bond was set at $51,000.
According to police, Mitchell was a passenger in the vehicle and while the driver was outside the truck, Tabb for an unknown reason, got into the driver’s seat and rammed the truck through the entrance of Forgey’s on Martin Luther King Street.
Mitchell then fled on foot, but was identified to police by witnesses and later apprehended.
Two victims were checked by Acadian Ambulance personnel at the scene and did not wish to be taken to the hospital. Three were transported, with no further details available.
The driver, Gregory P. Tabb, 47, of 103 Tabb Lane, Baldwin, was charged with open container. He was released on a summons.
