Man arrested for simple assault at casino
AMELIA, La. -- A 33-year-old Florida man was charged with simple assault and disturbing the peace after threatening a casino security officer, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Orion Paul McCranie, 33, of the 14200 block of Walsingham Road in Largo, Fla., was arrested at 9:42 p.m. Tuesday for disturbing the peace and simple assault. A deputy responded to a disturbance at a casino in Amelia. Upon arrival, Hebert said the deputy learned that McCranie threatened a casino security officer saying that the officer would, “need to call for back up.”
When the deputy made contact with McCranie, he smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, Hebert said. The deputy asked for his identification. McCranie became distracted telling the deputy that he lost some of his casino chips. The deputy asked two more times to see McCranie’s identification before he provided it.
Following the investigation, McCranie was placed under arrest. While patting down the offender, the casino chips that McCranie stated were missing were located in his pants pocket, Hebert said. McCranie was taken to the parish jail and held. He was released on $500 bail.
Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch reported the following arrests:
—Jerald Wayne Francois, 22, of Everette Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:25 p.m. Tuesday for simple burglary.
Police received information leading to a person, identified as Francois, in regard to a burglary of a Victor II business which was reported to the Morgan City police on Aug. 21. Road patrol officers located Francois and detectives responded to investigate. Francois was taken to jail where he remains pending bail. The investigation is continuing with more arrests expected, Crouch said.
—Donald A. Carrier, 53, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday for theft of goods valued at $21.60.
A police officer working security at a local supermarket watched a person, later identified as Carrier, conceal items and attempt to leave the store without paying for the items. T—Denver Chapman III, 21, of Oak Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:46 p.m. Tuesday for possession of schedule I controlled dangerous substance – marijuana, contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, and resisting an officer.
—Marcus Andre White, 20, of Patterson, was arrested at 10:46 p.m. Tuesday for possession of schedule I controlled dangerous substance – marijuana third offense, contributing to the delinquency of juveniles, no driver’s license, and license plate light required.
An officer patrolling the Wyandotte area of Morgan City detained a vehicle and its occupants after he observed a traffic violation. The driver, White, ould not produce a valid driver’s license, Crouch said.
The officer also located a male and female juvenile passenger. Officers searched the vehicle and located suspected marijuana inside the vehicle. The driver, White, and the passenger who’s true identity was discovered to be Denver Chapman were arrested, taken to the police department and held. The female juvenile was arrested and released to her parents.
—Leopoldo Morales, 22, of Pasadena, Texas, was arrested at 9:06 p.m. Tuesday for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, tail lamps, no driver’s license, and improper lane usage.
An officer with the Morgan City Police Department observed a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner on La.182 near Cottonwood Street. The officer stopped the vehicle and detained the driver, identified as Morales.
Morales exhibited signs of impairment and was given a field sobriety test which he did poorly on, Crouch said. Morales was also found to be operating a vehicle with no driver’s license. He was taken to the police department where he refused the Intoxilyzer 5000 test, Crouch said. Morales remains in jail.Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Johnny Toups, 32, of Murial Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:29 p.m. Tuesday for speeding and driving under suspension. Toups was released on $1,250 bail.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Naomi Brazel, 38, of the 5300 block of Leo Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 11:23 a.m. Tuesday for criminal trespass. Brazel was released on $355 bail.
