Man arrested for failing to comply with drug court terms
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported the following arrests:
—Irvin Jermaine Escort, 33, of Mallard Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:17 p.m. Monday for driving under suspension, exceeding the maximum speed limit and driving left of center. A deputy patrolling U.S. 90 in Bayou Vista observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed.
Using radar, the deputy confirmed that the vehicle was traveling 70 mph in a 55 mph zone and initiated a traffic stop. The deputy observed the vehicle cross the center line of the roadway several times before coming to a stop. The driver, Escort, who was found to be driving under suspension. Escort was released on a summons to appear in court Aug. 23.
—Alfred Ogwin Jr., 48, of Levee Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:46 p.m. Monday for failure to comply with the terms and conditions of drug court. Ogwin was located in Amelia on the warrant. His bail is set at $100,000.
Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch reported the following arrests:
—Johanna Ann Tabor, 46, of Glenwood Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:58 a.m. Sunday for theft by shoplifting. Officers were dispatched to Rouses Supermarket regarding a shoplifter. Officers arrived and found that Tabor had been detained by store personnel after she was observed placing several items in her bag and attempting to leave the store without paying for the items, Crouch stated. Tabor was taken to the city jail and held.
—Cotina W. Baptiste, 30, of Williams Street in Patterson, was arrested at 11:38 a.m. Sunday after she was located at the Morgan City Police Department where it was discovered that she had an outstanding warrant for the Patterson Police Department for telephone harassment. Baptiste was booked into Morgan City Jail on the warrant.
—Felicia Louise Burns, 43, and James Maurice Scandlon, 49, both of Second Street in Morgan City, were arrested at 2:17 p.m. Sunday for domestic abuse battery. Officers were dispatched to the residence regarding a domestic disturbance. Officers arrived and discovered that both Burns and Scandlon were involved in a physical altercation causing injuries to both, the report stated. Burns and Scandlon were taken to the Morgan City Police Department where they both remain in jail.
—Eddie Alvarez, 26, of David Street in Pierre Part, was arrested at 8:37 p.m. Sunday for unauthorized entry into an inhabited dwelling and simple battery. Officers were dispatched to a Short Street residence in regards to a battery. When officers arrived, they were informed that Alvarez, who was known to the complainant, had entered the residence without permission and committed a battery upon an occupant, Crouch stated. The complainant advised that Alvarez then left the residence before officers arrived. Alvarez was located at Cajun Country Lounge in Morgan City where he was placed under arrest and was taken to the Morgan City Police Department where he remains in jail.
—Jacob E. Mason, 24, of Sixth Avenue in Chikasaw, was arrested at 9:14 p.m. Sunday for possession of Schedule I controlled dangerous substance (marijuana). An officer working security at Rouses Supermarket observed a person acting suspicious inside the store. When police arrived they found that person, Mason, inside a vehicle in the parking lot. Mason was in possession of suspected marijuana, according to Crouch. He was taken to the police department where he remains in jail.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Bryce Everett Blackman, 21, of Bradford Street in Thibodaux, was arrested at 8:49 p.m. Monday for DWI second offense (refused to take the Intoxilyzer 5000), suspended driver’s license, open container and urinating in public. Blackman is still being held.
—Frank John Singleton Jr., 30, of Friendship Alley in Amelia, was arrested at 8:28 p.m. Monday on a warrant for violation of a protection order. Singleton is still being held.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
