Man arrested after sheriff’s office receives tip from public
A 50-year-old Morgan City man was arrested Monday in connection with theft of more than $3,000 from cash registers at Walmart in Bayou Vista Saturday after a video surveillance image of the man was posted on the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Facebook page and released to media outlets Monday afternoon, according to St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert.
Kim Christopher Armand, 50, of Brashear Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:45 p.m. Monday for theft, simple criminal damage to property, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
On Saturday, the sheriff’s office began an investigation into a theft at Walmart in Bayou Vista. The suspect, who can be seen on video surveillance footage, broke into two cash registers, took over $3,000 in cash, and left the store on a bicycle. In an effort to identify the suspect, details of the case were released on the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Facebook page and to local media outlets, Hebert stated.
Shortly after that news release, a detective received information regarding the identity and whereabouts of the suspect in the video. Investigators located the suspect, identified as Armand, at the Morgan City Motel on Brashear Avenue in Morgan City, according to Hebert.
Upon executing a search warrant of Armand’s room, additional evidence linking him to the crime was located. Armand was also found to be in possession of items of drug paraphernalia. He was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail is set. The crime was solved as a direct result of the public’s assistance, Hebert stated.
