Man accused of punching deputy’s car in Amelia
AMELIA, La. — A 26-year-old Texas man was arrested Sunday by a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s deputy in Amelia after the man punched a deputy’s car and kicked the deputy, according to Sheriff Mark Hebert.
Emmanuel Lozano, 26, of Woodhollow Drive in Brownsville, Texas, was arrested at 9:36 p.m. Sunday for disturbing the peace, resisting an officer, and two counts of battery of a police officer.
It was one of four arrests in Amelia reported by Hebert over the holiday weekend.
Juan Raul Morales-Torres, 51, of Zaragoza Street in Brownsville, Texas, was arrested at 10:01 p.m. Sunday for remaining where forbidden and disturbing the peace intoxicated.
A deputy responded to a complaint of a disturbance at America’s Best Value Inn in Amelia. Upon arrival, the deputy learned from a manager that Lozano and Torres were involved in an altercation. While investigating the complaint, Lozano was observed punching a police unit. During his arrest, Lozano also kicked a deputy, Hebert stated. Both Lozano and Torres were taken to the parish jail and held. No bail is set for Lozano. Torres was released on $750 bail.
A 25-year-old Amelia man was arrested Saturday in Amelia on multiple drug charges, including possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a 6-year-old boy, in addition to charges for obstruction of justice and possession of a fraudulent document, according to Hebert.
Rene Garcia, 25, of Lake Palourde Road in Amelia, was arrested at 5:35 p.m. Saturday for possession of cocaine, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a juvenile, obstruction of justice, possession of a fraudulent document, operating a vehicle without lawful presence in the United States, improper lane use, open container and no driver’s license.
Narcotics detectives patrolling the Amelia area conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for improper lane use. Detectives met with the driver, identified as Garcia, who presented detectives with fraudulent identification, Hebert stated. During the investigation, detectives located cocaine and a 6-year-old boy in the vehicle who was released to his mother, according to Hebert. Garcia was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail is set.
A 31-year-old Morgan City man was arrested Saturday on Lake Palourde Road in Amelia by a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s deputy after the man dented an ice machine while backing up a vehicle in a parking lot, according to Sheriff Mark Hebert.
Wilson Anthonia Guerrero-Banegas, 31, of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:12 p.m. Saturday for reckless operation of a vehicle and operating a vehicle without lawful presence in the United States.
A deputy responded to a report of a crash on private property on Lake Palourde Road in Amelia. During the investigation, the deputy learned that Banegas dented an ice machine while backing up a vehicle in a parking lot, Hebert stated. Banegas was also in the United States without the proper paperwork. He was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail is set.
