Louisiana Shrimp & Petroleum Festival activities begin

April Hash and Jason Hash were walking on Front Street in Morgan City on Tuesday while the carnival was being set up under the bridge for the 79th Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival. The carnival begins at 5 p.m. Thursday. The festival runs from Thursday through Monday.

Lee Darce, Louisiana Shrimp & Petroleum Festival staff member, holds the box while sponsor Earl King Jr. draws for Best Seat winners. The winners will receive a 2014 poster, a festival T-shirt from Skippers, money to eat and drink in the park and a festival pin. They will also be able to enjoy the music from the comfort of their lawn chairs while relaxing in the gazebo in Lawrence Park. Winners are as follows: Friday, Ben Valdez, of Belle Chasse; Saturday, Gary Reynaud, of Morgan City; Sunday, Hugo Valdez, of Belle Chasse; and Monday, Beth Felterman, of Patterson.
