Long weekend produces long slate of arrests in area

The St. Mary Sheriff’s Office reports several arrests over the long holiday weekend, including a man striking his elderly mother and of a drunk driver driving into Bayou Ramos, Sheriff Mark Hebert reports.

Verelyn B. Cannon, 53, of Ciro Street, Morgan City, was arrested Saturday at 10:23 a.m. on warrants for simple battery of the infirm, for pushing his 75-year-old mother during an argument, and two failure to appear warrants for criminal neglect of family.

He was located on Joseph Street in Siracusaville, placed under arrest on warrants and booked into the parish jail with no bond yet set.

Priscilla H. Lovell, 35, of Raine Court, Morgan City, and Frank Samson, 23, of Vicknair Road, St. Martinville, were arrested Saturday at 1:16 a.m., with Lovell being arrested for driving while intoxicated third-offense and reckless operation of a vehicle, and Samson being arrested for disturbing the peace intoxicated. Deputies were called to La. 182 in Amelia in reference to a vehicle going into Bayou Ramos.

Lovell apparently left the Temptation Lounge and drove into the bayou, Hebert said, and deputies noticed a strong odor of alcoholic beverage. She was arrested and transported to the Berwick Police Department to take a breath test, which she refused to take. She was subsequently booked into the parish jail with no bond yet set.

During the investigation, it was learned that another suspect was in the vehicle and appeared to return to the lounge. Samson was located in the lounge and removed from the location. While attempting to question him about the incident, Samson began yelling and causing a disturbance. He was booked into the parish jail with a $250 bond and later released.

Also arrested by the sheriff’s office were:

—Jeremy Dardar, 22, of Hwy. 665, Montegut, arrested at the Berwick Boat Landing on Friday at 9:36 a.m. on warrants for Houma Police Department for aggravated burglary and Terrebonne Parish for failure to appear on the charge of theft. Booked into the parish jail, and later transferred to Terrebonne Parish jail.

—Shannon M. Cook, 23, of Choctaw Street, Charenton, arrested Friday at 11:23 p.m. for theft by shoplifting. Issued a summons to appear in court on Aug. 17.

—Katie Breaux, 26, of Polaris Street, Bayou Vista, arrested Saturday at 9:51 a.m. at her residence on a warrant for issuing worthless checks. Issued a summons to appear in court on Aug. 17.

—Jada Aloisio, 42, of Onstead Street, Morgan City, arrested Saturday at 11:58 a.m. at her residence on a warrant for issuing worthless checks. Issued a summons to appear in court on Aug. 17.

—Jonathon P. Landry, 24, of South Vivian Street, Morgan City, arrested in the parking lot of Sandi’s Lounge in Amelia on Sunday for disturbing the peace intoxicated and open alcoholic container. Booked into the parish jail with a $500 bond and was later released.

—Charles Parker, 22, of Georgia Street, Sulphur, and Korianne M. Parker, 23, of Carol Road, Bayou Vista, were arrested Sunday at 8:24 a.m. at Parker’s residence for domestic abuse battery. Both booked into the parish jail with no bonds yet set.

—Robert J. McCafferty, 22, of Canal Road, Bayou Vista, arrested at the washateria at his residence Sunday at 12:47 p.m. for disturbing the peace, simple assault, resisting an officer by giving false information, and warrants for failure to appear on the charges of possession of marijuana, possession of alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle, and a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of possession of marijuana. Booked into the parish jail with no bond yet set.

—Crystal Hart, 27, of Jones Street, Berwick, arrested Sunday at 4:02 p.m. for theft by shoplifting. Issued a summons to appear in court on Aug. 17.

—Martin A. Pinseau, 56, of Bollinger Lane, Amelia, arrested Monday at 2:40 a.m. for disturbing the peace intoxicated. Booked into the parish jail with a $250 bond.

—Jeremy K. Nichols, 28, of Ben Dunn Road, Lufkin, Texas, arrested Monday at 12:59 p.m. for theft by shoplifting. Issued a summons to appear in court on Aug. 17.

—Florence T. Charpentier, 54, of Middle Road, Bayou Vista, arrested Monday at 10:21 p.m. at Saturn and Uranus streets during an investigative stop for possession of drug paraphernalia. Issued a summons to appear in court on Aug. 17.

According to Chief Pat LaSalle, the Patterson Police Department made the following arrests over the weekend.

—Jeffrey Fullerton, 34, of Patterson Nursing Home, arrested at the Patterson Nursing Home at 9 p.m. Friday for simple battery. Released with a summons to appear in court on June 21.

—James Tarleton, 19, of Taft Street, Patterson, arrested Saturday at 9:32 p.m. on Martin Luther King Drive in Patterson for simple criminal damage to property and aggravated assault. Released Sunday on $2,000 bond.

—Mark Smith, 48, Myrtle Street, Patterson, arrested Monday at 4:30 a.m. at the Cracker Barrel in Patterson for possession of drug paraphernalia, theft by shoplifting, and possession of marijuana. Remains incarcerated awaiting bond hearing.

—Roselyn Collins, 20, Hickory Street, Patterson, arrested at her home on Sunday at 9 p.m. for simple battery. Remains incarcerated with $319 bond.

—Leon Williams, 55, Clement Street, Patterson, arrested on Church Street on Monday at 3:34 p.m. for driving under suspension and not wearing a seatbelt. Released on personal recognizance.

The Morgan City Police Department reports the following arrests over the weekend, according to Chief Marc Folse:

—Leslie J. Vanmatre, 30, of Myrtle Street, Bayou Vista, arrested Sunday at 5:33 p.m. at Lake End Park for disturbing the peace intoxicated, remaining after forbidden, and resisting an officer. Booked into city jail and released on a $1,578 bond.

—Katelyn C. Acosta, 22, of General Patton Street, Morgan City, arrested Monday at 12:46 p.m. on Onstead Street for theft of a dog valued at $300. Booked into city jail with bond set at $500.

—Quentin L. Jones, 23, of Bush Street, Morgan City, arrested today at 2:39 a.m. on Sixth Street near Marshall Street in Morgan City on a city court warrant for failure to appear for loud music and illegal carrying of a weapon. Booked into city jail and released on a $916 bond.

—Bobby L. Smith, 47, of Carl Street, Lafayette, arrested today at 3:56 a.m. on La. 182 for entry or remaining after forbidden. Released on a $282 bond.
