La. 182 oaks granted pardon from Gov. Bobby Jindal

Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development had planned to cut 13 live oak trees along La. 182 near Moresi Road as part of a project to upgrade a portion of the highway. DOTD says the centuries’ old live oaks are too close to the road, creating safety issues. Resident Donovan Garcia said, “The DOTD does not need to remove these trees. They are taking a cheap way out and they don’t know what they’re talking about. They can save these trees if they want to.” The trees were spared by order of Gov. Bobby Jindal Tuesday.
