Power surcharge extension on Morgan City council agenda
The City Council will meet at 6 p.m. today at the City Court Building.
On the agenda are the first readings of a transformer recovery surcharge extension and sewer user rates. The transformer recovery surcharge was originally passed Dec. 12 and is scheduled to expire at the end of the year. The surcharge passed in December 2012 was to raise money to pay to place a breaker in front of the city’s new transformer at Joseph Cefalu Sr. Steam Plant and relocate the transformer currently in use to be used as a backup.
The proposed extension of the 2.25 mil per kilowatt-hour power surcharge would last for 24 months. Utilities Director Bill Cefalu will also give an update on the installation of the city’s new transformer.
The proposed sewer user rates to be charged for wastewater treatment for water consumers and industrial waste generators are 100 percent of the total monthly water bill for residential, business and commercial customers.
The council will also go through a second reading of a 2013 budget amendment and will go through the third reading, public hearing and adoption of the 2014 budget.
Also on the agenda are resolutions to approve an agreement to provide Internet access to campers at Lake End Park, and to declare surplus equipment.
