Parish Council meets Wednesday
Members of the St. Mary Parish Council will convene Wednesday for their first regular session of the new year.
Items on the agenda include consideration of a proposed ordinance requiring the council and its other governing agencies to advertise for and award contracts to the lowest responsible bidder for accounting services. The council nor its other public bodies are not currently required to advertise for bids for professional services such as engineering and accounting. The proposed ordinance was introduced by Councilman Tim Tregle of Morgan City. A public hearing on the proposal will be called at 5:45 p.m.
Ordinances to be introduced will include a zoning change at 1453 and 1473 Siracusa Road, Siracusa, from a conservation zone to heavy industrial and a specific use permit at 24311 and 24351 Levee Road, Charenton, for a 21-lot recreational vehicle park.
The council also is slated to elect a chairman and vice chairman from among the three at-large members.
Resolutions on the agenda include approval of a $425,000 bond issue by Recreation District 3; and endorsement of participation in the Quality Jobs Program COMAR Marine LLC and in the Enterprise Zone Program by LAPCO Manufacturing Inc.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. on the fifth floor of the courthouse in Franklin.
