Mayor plans to present police chief selection

A new police chief will be appointed during Tuesday’s city council meeting.
Assistant Chief Michael Banks has been leading the police department since Chief Travis Crouch died Jan. 31.
Mayor Frank “Boo” Grizzaffi said the selection will come from within the department, but declined to be more specific. Grizzaffi will appoint the new chief with the council’s approval.
The council will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the City Court Building.
Guests on the agenda include Beverly Domengeaux with the Council on Aging Report, Woodrow Parker of Aqua Safety 1st Community Program, Lirette Ford for the Cajun Wounded Warriors Car Show street closure, Lucien Cutrera with a St. Mary Parish Hazard Mitigation Plan Update, and a jet-ski event to be hosted at Lake End Parkway.
Also on the agenda are the insurance committee’s recommendations to renew the city’s health insurance servicing agent under the same terms and conditions and to renew the city’s health insurance policy with no increase in premiums, a truck donation resolution for the fire department, the first reading of an ordinance to change the zoning designation of 6214 La. 182 and 1015 Everett St. from residential to commercial use and the second reading, public hearing and adoption of an ordinance to change the zoning designation of 702 Youngs Road from residential to heavy industrial.
A resolution of respect for Crouch is the final item on the agenda.
