Grants available for facades and repairs

Reimbursement grants are available for facade and exterior downtown business improvements and repair in the Franklin Historic District.
The grants are reimbursed on a first-come-first-serve basis.
“People who come here enjoy our city, and they usually return because of our hospitality, food and culture. Franklin is beautiful in the spring time, and a great time for travel,” Mayor Raymond Harris said. “Also, the spring is the perfect time to spruce up your home or business. These funds allow those who live in the Historic District and those who have businesses on Main Street to assist Franklin and St. Mary Parish in attracting tourists to our area, which is one of the economic drivers for this region and Louisiana.”
Ten grants of up to $500 for painting homes in Franklin’s Historic District are available. Applicants must submit a copy of a completed documentation form from the city’s Zoning, Permitting and Inspections Department; before and after pictures; a description of the work to be completed; an itemized list of all expenditures and copies of receipts for those expenses must be submitted to the Office of Community Development. Expenses listed without receipts will not be reimbursed.
Additionally, there are six grants of up to $5,000 for exterior improvements for downtown businesses in the Franklin Historic District. Applicants must apply for and receive a certificate of appropriateness from the Historic District Commission. A copy of the Historic District Commission application, certificate of appropriateness, before and after pictures, a description of the work to be completed, an itemized list of all expenditures and copies of receipts for those expenses must be submitted to the Office of Community Development. Expenses listed without receipts will not be reimbursed.
