City slates Mardi Gras event after the parade

Franklin city government will host “Mardi Gras on the Bayou” after this year’s Mardi Gras parade along the Bayou Teche on March 4.
This family-friendly event will feature a band and a 40-foot slide.
It’s set for 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. with the Michael Foster Project performing from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. under the pavilion. The 40-foot slide will be behind the Center Theater.
Nonprofit organizations, churches, school groups, social organizations and Relay for Life teams are wanted to provide and supervise children’s games and offer prizes to the children. Carnival games are suggested for the children such as sack races, darts, ring toss, hula hoop contests and horseshoes.
Organizations that agree to host a game must supply their own materials and prizes. Additionally, organizations must have a sign with their name and the cost to play the games. Organizations that participate as game hosts must complete a game host application.
Twelve spaces (two parking spaces per vendor along the bayou) will be available on a first-come-first-served basis. The deadline to apply to be a game host is Friday, Feb. 28 at 12 p.m.
Restaurants and caterers are needed to provide food and non-alcoholic drinks to the crowd. Restaurants and caterers will have to complete a vendor application and provide copies of their 2014 occupational license and liability insurance. Each restaurant or caterer must have its own materials to set up along the Bayou Teche. Each must have a sign with its name, items and prices. Twelve spaces (also two parking spaces per vendor along the bayou) will be available on a first-come-first-served basis. The deadline to apply to be a vendor is Friday, Jan. 31 at 12 p.m.
“‘Mardi Gras on the Bayou’ is a great opportunity for local businesses to increase their clientele and a good way for local schools, churches and other organizations to raise money for spring events such as trips, proms and graduation events,” Mayor Raymond Harris said.
