City of Franklin, Relay for life set lamp post decorating contest
The City of Franklin and the Franklin Relay for Life committee will sponsor a lamp post decorating contest.
Contestants will be judged on how well they express the theme “Surfin’ for a Cure” and the use of the color purple. The lamp posts will be judged May 2, and the winners will be announced May 3 at the Relay for Life event at Franklin High School.
“The St. Mary Parish Council on Aging filled out an entry form and paid its entry fee,” Mayor Raymond Harris said. “We hope that other nonprofits, veterans, schools, social organizations and businesses will donate and decorate.”
Entry forms which contain the rules of the contest can be picked up at City Hall. The entry fee, which will be donated to the American Cancer Society, is $10. Contestants can begin decorating April 1 and decorating ends April 30. Lamposts will be assigned on a first-come-first-serve basis. Additionally, all decorated lamposts must have the name of the person, business, organization or school that is participating as a part of the display. Decorations must be removed by May 9.
