CAA celebrating Head Start Awareness
St. Mary Community Action Agency is celebrating Head Start Awareness and Early Recruitment Month in October.
As part of the effort to recruit more students and families, there are several activities for the entire family.
Already this week parents were invited to volunteer at their child’s center to have a “hands-on” experience in the classroom. For three days that began Wednesday and runs through Friday, community helpers and volunteers have been invited to visit the centers and share story time with the students.
Friday, the final day of Head Start Awareness Week, CAA will host its Community Fair and Recruitment Outreach Day.
Local businesses and community partners will meet in the Peter Pan gymnasium from 9 a.m. until noon to make community residents aware of what services are available to them.
Community partners expected to be in attendance are the Franklin Fire Department, Acadiana Works, UMCOR, A Child’s Place Daycare & Learning Center, Premier Community Services, LSU Health Science Center, St. Mary Parish LSU Ag Center, Franklin Foundation Hospital, Chez Hope, St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office, Teche Action Clinic, St. Mary Outreach, Anytime Fitness, Teche Home Health and the St. Mary Parish Chamber of Commerce just to name a few.
The Head Start Program in St. Mary/Vermilion Parish is funded to serve 337 pre-school children and their families in St. Mary Parish and 294 children and their families in Vermilion Parish. Transportation is also provided for Head Start children.
The Head Start program continues to take applications for all centers year round.
