Berwick council OKs lighthouse lens lease
The Berwick council approved a resolution allowing a lease between the U.S. Coast Guard and the town for the lighthouse lens that has graced the front office of Town Hall for 20 years.
The lens belongs to the Coast Guard but was refurbished by the town. A lighthouse restoration group in Florida recently requested the lens, but the town “has a lot of blood, sweat and tears invested in that lens,” said Bubba Slaughter, Berwick chief administrative officer.
The council expanded its agenda during Tuesday’s meeting to approve a resolution allowing Mayor Louis Ratcliff to sign a lease agreement keeping the lens in Berwick at no cost.
Also Tuesday, the Council:
—Adopted an ordinance accepting a right-of-way on Sixth Street.
—Approved a liquor permit for Three Brothers Seafood.
