Police are looking for a "vehicle of interest" and have released a more detailed description of the person of interest in this morning's robbery of M C Bank in Bayou Vista.
Traci Landry, St. Mary Parish sheriff’s spokeswoman, said they are looking for a red pickup truck that has a foot-wide silver stripe across the side.
There may be a connection between the person seen in the red truck and the robbery in Bayou Vista, Landry said.
That truck was seen at the Morgan City Federal Credit Union on Victor II Boulevard moments after the Bayou Vista robbery, according to Capt. James Blair, Morgan City police spokesman. Employees at the credit union in Morgan City reported a suspicious person who was unable to gain access to the credit union building and left the vicinity.
Blair said the man is described as being a white male, 6 feet tall, 150 pounds who was wearing a dark hoodie, jeans, a dark bandana, dark running shoes and a cap with a Toronto bluejays, Philadelphia Eagles, or similar logo on the front. He is described as being 35 to 45 years old.
"It fits the description of the gentleman in Bayou Vista, but we haven't verified that it is, in fact, the same subject," Blair said.
He left the area in an older model step-side pickup truck with a red top. It has silver stripe down the side and a handicapped placard on the rear view mirror, Blair said.
Morgan City police have obtained footage showing the man's face and will be releasing it shortly, Blair said.
The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call at 11:05 a.m. of a robbery that took place at M C Bank on Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista.
Landry said deputies are searching the area for the person who entered the bank, demanded money from an employee and then left the location with an undisclosed amount of cash. No one inside the bank was injured during the robbery, Landry said.
The suspect is a white male who was believed to be wearing a Toronto bluejays baseball cap. He was masked and wearing blue jeans, dark shoes and a hoodie, Landry said.
Bayou Vista Elementary School, which went on lockdown shortly after 11 a.m., was released from lockdown at 1 p.m. The school had been secured in response to the robbery, according to Assistant Superintendent Keith Thibodeaux.
Anyone who may see the suspect should not approach. They should contact local authorities.
Anyone with information on the crime or the identity of the person in the pictures should contact the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office at 985-384-1622 or 337-828-1960 or the Morgan City Police Department at 985-380-4605.
