Lisa’s Poboy Shop to be demolished

MORGAN CITY, La. — Demolition was expected to begin today on the building that had housed Lisa’s Poboy Shop in Morgan City on Brashear Avenue.

Vincent Pillaro, owner of Pillaro Tree Service in Franklin, said Monday, work was probably going to begin today to tear down the building.

Property owner Frank “Boo” Grizzaffi said the tenant who owned Lisa’s Poboy, Ernest Voisin, decided to close the business, and because the building is old, not in use and has health hazards, Grizzaffi decided to tear down the building.

Grizzaffi is the mayor of Morgan City.

Since 1974, the building had been Lisa’s Poboy Shop, which was started by the Colgin family.

Danny’s Fried Chicken owner Liz Colgin said Danny’s Fried Chicken originally opened in 1968 at the Lisa’s Poboy location and then moved to its current location in 1974 across Brashear Avenue after it outgrew its original location.

Colgin said the Lisa’s Poboy building was around many years before Danny’s Fried Chicken became the tenant.
