Horticulturist: Roses need summer care

HAMMOND — Summer is not the most enjoyable time to work in the yard in Louisiana, but rose bushes need attention to ensure good performance through the summer and into early fall.

Nicholls Reading Council recognizes local winners

Kindergarten- through second-grade winners in the Louisiana Reading Association’s Young Authors Contest sponsored by the Nicholls State University Reading Council are Aidan Teague, Isabella Arceneaux, Luis Zuniga, Taylor Lucore, Alicea Franklin, Reece Arceneaux, Jude Hebert, Kailynn Gaudet and Reese Leonard. Teachers: Joy Hebert, Noel Jett, Veronica Governale, Michelle Besse, Felicia Stevens, Jenny Williams, Shelly Suire and Gail Breaux. M C Bank donated the trophies. Bank representative Frances Dupre was on hand to present the awards. Also on hand were Nicholls Reading Council officers Veronica Governale, president; Katie Hunter, vice president; Kay Arceneaux, secretary; and Monica Governale, treasurer.
