Central Catholic was represented on the Class 1A All-State softball squad with one selection.

Freshman pitcher Megan Landry was an honorable mention selection on the squad, which was released Thursday.

On the mound, Landry won 13 games, recorded a 2.66 ERA and struck out 166.

She also added a .333 batting average with five triples, three home runs and 20 RBI.

“I’m just proud of her because all of her hard work and dedication to softball is paying off,” CCHS softball coach Joe Russo said Thursday.

Russo said the honor was a big one for a freshman and is something that Landry and the team can build upon.

Central Catholic finished the regular season with a 16-12 overall mark. The Lady Eagles fell in the first round of the playoffs to eventual state runner-up, Catholic-Pointe Coupee, 6-2.

CPC coach and former LSU standout Lauren Doucet was chosen as Class 1A Coach of the Year after leading her squad to the state title game for the first time since 1996.

Kimberly Nilsson of state champion Archbishop Hannan was named the squad’s Outstanding Player. The junior shortstop recorded a .470 batting average with eight home runs and 27 RBI.

Landry was not the only District 8-1A representative on the squad as Vermilion Catholic’s Mila LeBeouf was a first-team utility selection with a 14-11 overall mark on the mound, while VC shortstop Katie Frith made the squad as an honorable mention all-state choice.
