Lady Eagles will host Mount Hermon today

MORGAN CITY — The Central Catholic Lady Eagles will continue postseason play today as they host Mount Hermon in the second-round of the Class 1A playoffs.

Mount Hermon, the 13th seed, enters today’s contest following a 48-44 victory against No. 20 seed Ouachita Christian School Monday in Mount Hermon.

Central Catholic, the No. 4 seed, easily defeated No. 29 seed Delhi Charter, 65-31, Monday in Morgan City.

In Mount Hermon’s first-round win, the Lady Jackets nailed nine three-pointers. They attempted 24.

“We’re going to have to get out there and guard them,” Central Catholic coach Jamarr Garrett said of defending the three-pointer.

He said the squad would defend them the same way as Hanson Memorial, a squad that also shot a lot of three-pointers.

Kaitlyn Barber led Mount Hermon in Monday’s victory with 24 points, including four three-pointers, while Nicole Riley added 13.

Mount Hermon (12-6) could not shake Ouachita Christian, who kept matching Ouachita Christian’s scoring outputs.

One notable win for Mount Hermon this year was a 37-34 victory against Southern Lab at home.

Southern Lab got the best of the Lady Jackets, 59-39, in Baton Rouge later in the season.

“We know Southern Lab usually has a strong program year in, year out, so it says a lot about them,” Garrett said. “They can play when they want to.”

However, Garrett noted that nobody can be overlooked in the playoffs.

“Any night you’re beatable,” he said.

In Monday’s victory against Delhi Charter, Meo Knight and Randi Brown each scored 18 points, while Abbie Bergeron added 11 to lead the Lady Eagles.

“We did a lot of things right last game, a lot better than I thought we would do not playing in a week,” Garrett said.

He said the squad needs to cut down on its fouling, though, as both Knight and Brown as well as Megan Landry had two fouls by the end of the first quarter.

Game time is set for 6 p.m. Admission will be $8.
