Mr. John Jackson Sr., 83, a resident of Jeanerette and native of Sorrell, died Monday, June 20, 2011, at 8:15 p.m., at Iberia Medical Center following a short illness.

He is survived by six sons, John Jackson Jr. and Gil Jackson of Jeanerette, Clay Jackson of Sorrell, Ted Jackson Sr. and Dale Jackson of New Iberia and Craig Jackson of Pineville; six daughters, Katherine E. Jackson, Margarete E. Jackson and Eliza F. Jackson of Jeanerette, Ruby J. Clarkston of New Iberia, Rita A. Jackson of Indianapolis, Indiana and Bonnie F. Jackson of Arlington, Texas; three brothers, Wilson Jackson Sr. of Baldwin, Clarence Jackson Jr. of Centerville and Republican Jackson of St. Martinville; four sisters, Lillie Viltz and Florence Jackson of Sorrell, Rose Mary Arceneaux of Beaumont, Texas and Lucy Jackson of Boston, Massachusetts; 26 grandchildren; and 32 great grandchildren.

Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, one sister and two brothers.

Visitations will be observed Saturday, July 2, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Charenton.

Burial rites will be read Saturday, at 11 a.m., at that church, with the Rev. Paul Godfrey officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

The Otis Mortuary of Franklin is in charge of preparations.
