Gov. Bobby Jindal kept his veto pen away from St. Mary capital outlay projects in House Bill 2 but two agencies in line for direct cash funding in House Bill 1 got the axe Monday as Jindal revealed a 46-page veto message.

district stays tax neutral
Members of Consolidated Gravity Drainage District 1 voted not to roll their property tax millages forward at their regularly scheduled meeting Monday night.
The district advertised their intention to roll the millages forward without a vote of the people as required by law. However, after listening to Centerville resident Greg Young the board apparently had a change of heart and voted the rollup down.

The St. Mary Parish School Board unanimously adopted the adjusted millage rates for the 2008 tax year, deciding to remain ``revenue neutral,'' and forego an additional $289,718 in revenues it could have earned by rolling forward.
