Impaired driver charged in early morning fatal crash in St. Mary Parish
JEANERETTE, La. -- A single vehicle fatal crash involving an impaired driver on La. 182 north of La. 318 took the life of the unrestrained front seat passenger, Donella Hill, 24, and left the impaired driver, Brittney Hill, 23, with moderate injuries, according to a news release from Louisiana State Police Troop I.
Troopers investigated the crash at about 1 a.m. Saturday.
Both occupants are from Jeanerette, the report stated.
Troopers’ investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Brittney Hill was driving west on La. 182 in a 2007 Toyota Camry when she failed to negotiate a left curve causing the Toyota to leave the roadway to the right, the news release stated.
Upon leaving the roadway, the vehicle entered a ditch and traveled for approximately 90 feet before impacting a culvert and overturning, the report stated.
Both Brittney and Donella Hill were unrestrained and were ejected from the vehicle during the course of the crash, the report stated.
Donella Hill received fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Mary Parish Coroner’s Office.
Brittney Hill was transported to the Iberia Medical Center with serious, but non-life threatening injuries, the report stated.
Troopers suspect Brittney Hill to have been impaired at the time of the crash and have submitted biological samples to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for toxicology analysis.
Upon release from the hospital, she will be booked into the St. Mary Parish Jail on charges of vehicular homicide, careless operation, and failure to wear a seatbelt, the report stated.
