HOOPS: Brown, Grogan score 20 each in Eagles win against Gueydan

The Central Catholic boys basketball team continues to prove why they sit atop the Class 1A Louisiana Sports Writers Association polls.
On Friday, they beat Gueydan, 76-36, with two players scoring 20 points or more — Lloyd Grogan had 22 and Dontrell Brown had 20.
Grogan also had 12 rebounds four assists, three steals and three blocks, while Brown had six rebounds, two assists and three steals.
Nick Case had 13 points, four rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block; Josh Singleton had nine assists, two rebounds and three steals; and Lamar Grogan had six points and 11 rebounds.
Central Catholic (16-3 overall, 2-0 in District 8-1A) travels across the parish to face Hanson Memorial on Tuesday.
The Jacks remain unbeaten in district
The Patterson boys basketball team kept its clean district record intact on Friday with a 59-29 win over Erath.
Gino Hall had 15 points, Dylan Sanders had 12, Deondre Skinner added eight, and Sherman Edwards scored seven.
The ‘Jacks held Erath under 10 points in each quarter until the fourth.
Patterson (16-2 overall, 6-0 in District 9-3A) will head to North Vermilion on Tuesday as they continue district play.
Four Lady Eagles scored in double-figures
The Central Catholic girls basketball team beat Gueydan with ease on Friday, 81-29.
It was a well-rounded effort with four different players in double figures. Makayla McDaniel led the team with 19 points, Meo Knight had 17, Randi Brown had 13, and Brie Hill added 11.
McDaniel added seven assists, four rebounds, five steals and was 3-for-6 from behind the arc; Megan Landry led the team with 13 rebounds; Brown added five rebounds and five assists; Knight had 11 rebounds, seven assists and five steals; and Hill had four steals and two rebounds.
The LSWA’s No. 6 ranked Lady Eagles will travel to face No. 9 Hanson Memorial (16-5) on Tuesday.
