Holy Cross plans Octoberfest Saturday

MORGAN CITY, La. — The Holy Cross Elementary School’s annual Octoberfest fun day begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday on the school grounds with a “Tough Kids Triathlon.”

The Octoberfest opening time for food is 10 a.m. Hamburgers with onions, hotdogs, French fries, baked goods and drinks will be available until 3 p.m.

The Central Catholic High School Spirit Squad will perform at 10:30 a.m.

Other entertainment includes inflatable bounce houses and slides, a mini-train, hayride, money machine, face painting, crafts and riding an inflatable bull.

School-age children are required to purchase a $10 bracelet to participate in the action.

The highlight of the day will be Insta-gator Touch Pools from the Covington area. Children will be allowed to handle small alligators and have their pictures taken with them from noon to 3 p.m.

A silent auction will be held throughout the day with more than 200 items including barbecue grills, ice chests, Vera Bradley bags, home decorating items, Virgins, Saints, and Angels and Seasonal Whispers jewelry, LSU and Saints items, outdoor benches and swings, Troy Landry signed items, an iPad, Beats, and other toys for children.

At 11:30 a.m., a live auction will be held with professional auctioneer Dennis Landry auctioning off classroom projects created by talented parents at each grade level. Also to be auctioned are two signed George Rodrigue Blue Dog framed prints titled “A Number One Tiger Fan” and “We are Marching Again.” The prints are not for sale in any Rodrigue Gallery and are only accessible to the public through a donation to a non-profit organization.

A one-of-a-kind six-foot paddle, created by grandparent Daril Landry and signed by swamp people Troy Landry, Jacob and Chase Landry, Clint Landry and Troy’s parents, Duffy and Myrtle Landry, will be auctioned.

Former Holy Cross pastor the Rev. Jay Baker has painted a blue dog wearing a Central Catholic High School football jersey to be auctioned.
