HMS Tigers post tournament win
Zach Uze tossed a one-hitter, leading the Hanson Memorial Tigers to a 7-1 victory over the Loreauville Tigers here Thursday in the annual HMS Baseball Tournament at the Amar Lancon Baseball Field.
The annual HMS Tournament is a three-day event with a round-robin format as 10 area teams compete against each other.
Hanson’s Uze turned in a dominant performance, surrendering the lone hit with one out in the top half of the seventh frame. Uze notched the mound victory after going the distance, yielding one run on one hit with eight strikeouts and one walk.
Leading hitters for the HMS Tigers were: Haden Judice, 2 for 3, triple; Drake Businelle, 2 for 4, 2 RBI; Chase Businelle, 2 for 4, 3 runs and Cameron Stovall, 1 for 2, 2 RBI.
In Thursday’s opening game, Houma Christian defeated Ascension Episcopal, 14-3 prior to the Patterson Lumberjacks pinning a 7-2 loss on the Delcambre Panthers.
On tap for today, the Ascension Episcopal Blue Gators will take on the Delcambre Panthers at 3 p.m. Ridgewood Prep of New Orleans will battle the Patterson Lumberjacks at 5:30 p.m. before the Hanson Memorial Tigers play Assembly Christian in the nightcap at 8.
Five games are set for Saturday with Houma Christian squaring off against Assembly Christian at 9 a.m. At 11:30 a.m., Delcambre will play against Ridgewood Prep. At 2 p.m., Patterson will take on Ascencion Episcopal. The 4:30 p.m. contest will pit the Hanson Memorial Tigers against Ridgewood Prep with Loreauville and Patterson meeting in the tourney’s final contest on Saturday at 7 p.m.
