HMS Tigers notch district opening win
Hanson Memorial opened the District 7-1A season with a huge 28-14 victory over the Ascension Episcopal Gators Friday at McCloskey Field.
Hanson’s Jeff Soulis led the way with 222 rushing yards on 30 attempts and a pair of touchdowns.
Hanson (3-1, 1-0) broke open a scoreless contest when Soulis darted 59 yards untouched for the score at the 10:19 mark of the first quarter, giving HMS a 6-0 advantage.
Ascension Episcopal (2-2, 0-1) tied the game at 6-6 when quarterback Trevor Doucet hookup with wide receiver Nick Padgett on a four-yard scoring strike with 5:36 left in the first quarter.
In the waning moments of the third quarter, Hanson grabbed the lead for good when quarterback Bo Barrilleaux _ who passed for 177 yards on the night _ connected with Jacob Stewart on a seven-yard touchdown strike. The dynamic duo added the two-point conversion to hand the Tigers a 14-6 advantage.
Hanson added a pair of touchdowns in the second half to capture the District 7-1A opener, 28-16 over the AES Gators.
Hanson will travel to face Lafayette Christian during action this week.
