HMS Tigers fall to ACHS
DONALDSONVILLE _ Damond Williams scored on touchdowns runs of 14 and 1 yards to lead the Ascension Catholic Bulldogs to a 43-14 win over the Hanson Memorial Tigers here Sunday in the regular season opener.
Jacquel Wade broke open a scoreless game with a 38-yard touchdown, giving the ACHS Bulldogs a short-lived 6-0 lead.
Hanson’s Drake Businelle scored on a 7-yard run, tying the game at 6-6 in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Williams scored the first of his two touchdowns on a 14-yard run before ACHS’ Thomas Gros scored on a 20-yard fumble recovery, giving the Bulldogs a 20-6 advantage.
Drake Businelle brought the Tigers back with a 34-yard TD scamper as Hanson Memorial trimmed Ascension Catholic’s lead to 20-14. Businelle set sail on the 34-yard scoring jaunt before Royce Norton made good on two-point conversion as HMS trailed by a 20-14 score in the second quarter.
Williams added a 1-yard TD to help the Bulldogs cap a 22-point second quarter outburst and take a 28-14 halftime advantage.
Ascension Catholic scored the final 15 points on 36-yard scoring strike from DJ Latino to Thomas Gros along with a seven-yard touchdown from Latino to post the 43-14 win.
Businelle led the Hanson Tigers (0-1) in rushing with 15 carries for 77 yards and two touchdowns. Collin Broussard rushed 10 times for 65 yards while Tyler Herbert had two totes for 12 yards.
Beau Barrilleaux and Drake Rodriguez both completed two passes on the day. Barrilleaux connected on two passes for 16 yards while Rodriguez had two completions for eight yards.
Peyton Kellebrew hauled in two passes for 11 yards while Royce Norton had two receptions for 13 yards.
Hanson (0-1) will return home to McCloskey Field to battle Catholic High of Point Coupee on Friday for Parent Night at 7 p.m.
