Expected wintery conditions halt athletics Tuesday, Wednesday
Athletics in St. Mary Parish public and parochial schools will be shuttered for the next two days, just like their schools, due to the effects of cold weather St. Mary Parish is expected to receive in the coming days.
School officials made the announcements this morning.
While Berwick boys’ and girls’ basketball district contests against Donaldsonville in Berwick have been moved up a day to tonight and bowling contests for Morgan City, Berwick and Central Catholic all will go on as scheduled this afternoon, after that, athletics will come to a halt until Thursday.
That means prep basketball and bowling action scheduled Tuesday and Wednesday now will be postponed.
As for tonight, Berwick’s games will begin with girls’ varsity at 5 p.m. and boys’ varsity to follow at 6 p.m.
In bowling, Morgan City will face Central Catholic at 3:40 p.m. today at Charlie’s Lanes in boys’ and girls’ action, while Berwick will meet H.L. Bourgeois in boys’ and girls’ action at Creole Lanes in Houma, also beginning at 3:40 p.m.
Bowling matches Wednesday that pitted Morgan City and Berwick boys’ and girls’ teams and Thibodaux and Central Catholic boys — all scheduled to be held at Charlie’s Lanes — will be rescheduled, LHSAA Morgan City-Houma Regional Coordinator Leo Delaune said today.
In other action, Morgan City boys’ and girls’ home district hoops contests against Vandebilt are cancelled as well as the Tigers’ and Lady Tigers’ scheduled district makeup games from Friday against South Terrebonne in Bourg, which had been set for Wednesday. The games, like Tuesday’s, were pushed back due to effects from the cold weather.
Also, Patterson boys’ and girls’ District 9-3A contests against E.D. White, set for Tuesday, have been pushed back to Thursday. Now, junior varsity boys’ action will begin at 5 p.m. with girls’ and boys’ varsity contests to follow.
Central Catholic girls’ and boys’ hoops Tuesday home contests against Gueydan have been pushed back to Thursday with varsity girls set for a 5 p.m. start and varsity boys to follow.

The Morgan City soccer teams’ matches against E.D. White, which were postponed last Friday due to potential icy road conditions, now will be held Friday in Thibodaux. Because Morgan City was scheduled to host E.D. White on that date, the Tigers and Lady Tigers now will host them Feb. 3.
