Hanson, West St. Mary open district; Franklin travels to face Morgan City

Hanson Memorial and West St. Mary enter action in their respective districts while the Franklin Hornets step out of district to renew an old parish rivalry as the high school football season enters Week 6.

The Hanson Memorial Tigers _ fresh off a 24-19 triumph over Basile High School _ will enter District 7-A action Friday on the road at Vermilion Catholic. Hanson is currently 4-1 on the seaosn while Vermilion Catholic is 5-0.

West St. Mary (4-1) opens District 6-2A action at home against the Loreauville Tigers (4-1). The Wolfpack dropped its first game of the season last week by a narrow 21-19 margin to the Walker Panthers a 5-A school.

The Franklin Hornets (2-3) will travel to take on the Morgan City Tigers, a 21-20 winner over Pearl River last week.

HMS AT VERMILION CATHOLIC

The Hanson Memorial Tigers take their 4-1 overall record into the District 7-A opener at Vermilion Catholic on Friday at 7 p.m.

Hanson knocked off Basile last week 24-19 when Collin Broussard raced 64 yards for a touchdown with 3:07 remaining in the game.

Hanson was led by touchdown runs of 4 and 5 yards respectively from Beau Ancona and a 3-yard score from Kole Fluke.

During last week’s action, HMS was led in rushing by Collin Broussard with 10 carries for 120 yards; Kole Fluke, 10 carries, 34 yards; Haden Judice, 6 carries, 32 yards and Beau Ancona, 6 carries, 25 yards.

Hanson quarterback Drake Rodriguez completed two passes for 75 yards with Chase Businelle hauling in a 54 yard catch and Taylor Barrilleaux making a 21-yard reception.

Vermilion Catholic await the HMS Tigers on Friday with a 5-0 overall record following last week’s 53-20 victory over the Dunham Tigers.

Hanson Memorial travels to face the Vermilion Catholic Eagles on Friday in the District 7-A opener at 7 p.m.

LOREAUVILLE AT WSM

West St. Mary and Loreauville will collide in the newly created District 6-2A opener on Friday at 7 p.m. at Wolfpack Stadium.

Catholic High, Loreauville and West St. Mary are all perched atop the District 6-2A standings with identical 4-1 records. Delcambre and Jeanerette follow up the top three with 2-3 won-loss records.

West St. Mary suffered its first loss of the season last week by a close 21-19 margin to the Walker Panthers. During last week’s action, Loreauville posted a 61-16 romp over Hamilton Christian.

West St. Mary looks to return to its winning ways after standing toe-to-toe with the Panthers last week.

West St. Mary’s Khyler Jackson DaiJuan Stewart and Tre’vell Dixon all scored touchdowns last week.

Loreauville enters Friday’s league contest ranked fifth in the Class 2-A poll prior to last week’s 61-16 drubbing of Hamilton Christian.

West St. Mary will play host to the Loreauville Tigers Friday in District 6-2A action at Wolfpack Stadium at 7 p.m.

FSHS AT MORGAN CITY

The Franklin Hornets will travel to take on intra-parish rival Morgan City Tigers Friday in non-district action.

Franklin heads into Morgan City on Friday after dropping a 37-20 game to the North Vermilion Patriots last week on a pair of critical miscues.

The Hornets take aim at the Morgan City Tigers on Friday after posting wins over Opelousas and Abbeville. The Tigers enter Friday’s action with victories over Berwick and Pearl River.

FSHS and Morgan City will play on Friday at 7 p.m. in non-district action at Tiger Stadium.
