Hanson Memorial Tigers soar over Gueydan Bears
On a night honoring legendary Hanson Memorial High School Coach Richard McCloskey, the Hanson Memorial Tigers scored early and often rolling past the Gueydan Bears by a score of 48-14 in District 8-A Friday at McCloskey Field in the regular season finale.
Hanson (7-3, 2-1) jumped outfront by a 16-0 score in the first quarter behind touchdowns from Haden Judice and Drake Rodriguez along with a pair of two-point conversions from Kole Fluke and Broc Buckner.
In the opening quarter, Judice raced 26 yards for a score prior to Fluke’s two-point conversion to hand the Tigers an 8-0 advantage at the 8:53 mark of the first quarter.
A little more than three minutes later, the Tigers hiked their lead to 14-0 when Rodriguez rushed over from 14 yards out and Buckner made good on the two-point conversion, sending HMS outfront by a 16-0 score with 5:52 showing on the clock in the first stanza.
Gueyan’s only scores came on the heels of Kevin Lagrange in the second quarter on runs of 54 and 5 yards.
Sandwiched in between Lagrange’s scores, the Hanson Tigers hit paydirt four times with Fluke scoring twice along with Beau Ancona and Judice.
With Lagrange’s first score enabling Gueydan to trim HMS’ lead to 16-6, the Tigers poured it on with four touchdowns over an eight-minute span for an insurmountable 48-6 advantage.
Fluke scored on a 28-yard run with Collin Broussard adding the two-point conversion at the 10:41 mark of the second quarter, lifting HMS outfront by a 22-6 margin.
With 7:26 showing on the clock, Hanson leading rusher Beau Ancona rambled 84 yards for a touchdown with Broussard tacking on the two-point conversion, giving HMS a 32-6 cushion.
Fluke again hit paydirt on a 13-yard TD run with
Rodriguez adding the two-point conversion, sending HMS out to a huge 40-6 advantage with 4:49 to play in the second stanza.
Judice capped the Tigers’ 30-point second quarter outburst with a 35-yard TD with 2:06 remaining before intermission as Hanson soared to a 46-14 victory over rival Gueydan.
Ancona rushed three times for 94 yards and one touchdown. Fluke ran four times for 68 yards and two scores while Judice finished with 68 yards and two scores on three rushes. Broc Buckner carried three times for 58 yards while Collin Broussard ran three times for 30 yards.
Rodriguez went 2 for 5 for 21 yards with Chase Businelle catching one pass for 11 yards and Alex Lancon making one reception for 10 yards.
Hanson will now await word on the upcoming state playoffs after turning in an impressive 7-3 overall mark on the season.
