Hanson honors Coach McCloskey Friday; WSM hosts CHSNI, FSHS awaits Berwick

The regular season comes to and end Friday with all three local teams playing huge district contests to close out the year.

The Hanson Memorial Tigers will play host to the Gueydan Bears in District 8-A while honoring Coach Richard McCloskey.

West St. Mary plays host to the Catholic High of New Iberia Panthers for Homecoming and Senior Night with a possible district championship on the line Friday at Wolfpack Stadium.

The Franklin Hornets will battle the Berwick Panthers in the District 9-3A finale looking to even its league record at 3-3.


Special activities are planned Friday in observance of Coach Richard McCloskey’s death 25 year ago during halftime of the Hanson Tigers’ District 8-A game against the Gueydan Bears at McCloskey Field.

Hanson Memorial (6-3, 1-2) plays host to Gueydan (1-5, 0-3) in the District 8-A finale at 7 p.m. at McCloskey Field.

The Tigers will host the Bears with a special activities planned in observance fo Coach Richard McCloskey’s death 25 years ago. Coach Mac is the winningest high school football coach in Louisiana. Coach Mac led the Tigers to the 1976 State Class A title and was inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.

HMS will host Gueydan Friday at 7 p.m. in the District 8-A finale at McCloskey Field.


The West St. Mary Wolfpack will host the Catholic High of New Iberia Panthers in a key matchup to decide the District 6-2A champion Friday at 7 p.m. at Wolfpack Stadium.

West St. Mary could force a three-way tie with a win over Catholic High in the district finale.

West St. Mary is 6-3 overall with a 2-1 District 6-2A won-loss record. Catholic High enters Friday’s game with an 8-1 overall mark with a perfect 3-0 league record. West St. Mary and Loreauville are currently tied for second place in District 6-2A with identical 2-1 records.

The Wolfpack’s 2-1 league includes victories over Delcambre and Jeanerette with a loss to Loreauville.

Catholic High stands alone perched atop the District 6-2A standings with league victories over Jeanerette, Loreauville and Delcambre.

West St. Mary will host Catholic High Friday for homecoming in the District 6-2A finale at 7 p.m.


The Franklin Hornets will play host to the Berwick Panthers on Friday at 7 p.m. at J. C. Dry Stadium in the District 9-3A finale.

Franklin (3-6, 2-3) will battle the winless Berwick Panthers (0-9, 0-4) in the District 9-3A finale.

Franklin plays host to Berwick Friday at 7 p.m. in the District 9-3A to close out the regular season.
