Hanson gets homecoming victory
Collin Broussard and Drake Businelle combined for nearly 300 rushing yards, helping the Hanson Memorial Tigers notch a 42-32 homecoming victory over the Ascension Episcopal Gators in District 8-A action Friday at McCloskey Field.
Broussard, who recorded four touchdowns on the night, rushed for 147 yards on 10 carries to propel the Tigers who posted their first league win of the season. Businelle finished with 12 carries for 146 yards for the Tigers.
The Hanson Tigers scored early and often in building a huge 42-25 lead over AES in the fourth quarter.
Hanson’s Beau LeBlanc opened the scoring with a 10-yard run with 6:11 showing on the clock in the first quarter as the Tigers held a 6-0 lead.
Broussard’s first of four touchdowns along with Drake Businelle’s two-point conversion gave the HMS Tigers a 14-6 advantage late in the first period. Broussard scored on a 28-yard reception for a touchdown, handing HMS a 14-6 cushion with 1:51 left in the first period.
After AES sliced Hanson’s lead to 14-12, Drake Rodriguez called his own number on a one-yard run to give the Tigers a 20-12 advantage at the 8:07 mark of the second quarter.
Broussard scored on a pair of touchdowns on a 23-yard run in the second quarter and a 28-yard run in the third quarter, sending HMS out front by a 32-18 advantage.
HMS Royce Norton added the two-point conversion, helping the Tigers take a 34-18 lead with 9:01 showing in the third quarter.
Broussard added a seven-yard touchdown run before Drake Businelle tacked on the two-point conversion, lifting the HMS Tigers to the 42-32 league triumph over Ascension Episcopal.
On the night, Broussard rushed for 147 yards on 10 carries while Businelle ran 12 times for 146 yards. Royce Norton had 10 totes for 82 yards while Beau LeBlanc carried four times for 39 yards and one touchdown with Josh Sanchez carrying five times for 22 yards.
Drake Rodriguez had five completions for 42 yards, including passes to Jacob Steward for 14 yards and one pass to Collin Broussard for the 28-yard TD.
Hanson (3-5, 1-1) will travel to play Central Catholic on Friday in District 8-A action.
