Groundbreaking for Center of Hope

A groundbreaking ceremony was held this morning in Centerville at the Center of Hope for its new horticulture building that will be dedicated to and named after the late Jesse A. Robicheaux who was an ARC of St. Mary Parish board member and volunteer at the center for more than 20 years. The building will be used in the cultivation of vegetable plants by ARC students for sale to the public throughout the year. A grant was obtained from FEMA to replace the center’s previous greenhouse that was heavily damaged during Hurricane Gustav. The organization provides services to individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Pictured with shovels are Robicheaux’s children Glenn Robicheaux and Gail Simpson along with Betty Verret, center, who has been ARC board president for 40 years. The structure is being built by Billy’s Carports and Patios of Patterson and is expected to be complete in three weeks.
