Grammy nominees to play at Nicholls' Swamp Stomp
The fourth annual Louisiana Swamp Stomp Festival at Nicholls State University will feature an extensive lineup of Cajun, Zydeco and Swamp Pop acts — among them, two recent Grammy nominees.
Louisiana Swamp Stomp will be held March 16-18.
Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys are scheduled to perform at 8:30 p.m. March 16. They received a nomination for Best Regional Roots Music Album in 2011. Titled “Grand Isle,” the album is available for online review at mamouplayboys.com/grand_isle/.
Also slated to perform at Swamp Stomp is Louisiana band Feufollet, whose album “En Couleurs” was nominated for Best Zydeco or Cajun Music Album in 2010. A profile of Feufollet, scheduled to perform at 12:30 p.m. March 18, is available at feufollet.net.
“Swamp Stomp is truly becoming a Thibodaux tradition, and we are very excited about the 2012 lineup,” Brenda Haskins, Nicholls executive director of auxiliary affairs said. “Our goal is to help keep south Louisiana music, art and culture alive and well. Everyone is welcome, so start making plans to attend!”
Launched in 2009, Swamp Stomp spotlights local and regional musicians; features a variety of south Louisiana foods; offers presentations on the history, culture and economic development of the region; and showcases artisans demonstrating their crafts and selling handmade items.
The event also features the annual Bayou French Education Program, or “Tresors du Bayou,” a popular attraction for thousands of primary and secondary school students from south Louisiana.
