Fryer presented AARP Citizenship Award
The St. Mary AARP held it regular monthly meeting on July 1 with Curtis Leonard, vice-president, presiding at the meeting.
The opening prayer, pledge, and grace was conducted by AnnEtta Lombardo and Gordon Smith sang a patriotic song. The members were served a meal of red beans and rice with sausage sponsored by DSF Wealth Management. The meal was prepared by Floyd and Shirley Hymel, Sterling and Pat Fryou, and Hubert and Carol Francis
Robert Marcell, meal sponsor, addressed the members. Teche Regional Medical Center Rehab and Physical Therapy gave a presentation. On hand from Teche Regional were Tim Cronan and Grady Guidry who informed the members about their facilities. Lisa Patterson with Maison Jardin also spoke to the members.
During the meeting the annual Citizenship Award was given to Patricia Fryer. Her family joined her onstage to receive the award and say a few words about her.
Several important announcements were made during the meeting. The National AARP convention trip will be to Atlanta from Oct. 3 to 7. A special trip package has been put together for the members looking to attend the convention. Another trip announced is that the St. Mary AARP will be going to Branson Nov. 24 to 28. Members can contact the AARP office at 985-384-2277 for more information on the trips. Members were reminded the chapter meal is set at 6 p.m. July 29 at Tampico’s Restaurant in Morgan City.
Also announced, the St. Mary AARP 25th anniversary party will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 25. There will be entertainment, food and prizes.
The next monthly meeting is scheduled Aug. 5. Members will be dining on fried fish with white beans and rice sponsored by Parish President Paul Naquin and Parish Councilman Kevin Voisin. Gabriel Beadle, PA-C, MMS, from the Morgan City Urgent Care center will be giving a presentation to members during the meeting.
