St. Mary Parish High School Teacher of the Year Nannette Millet is evidence that dreams do come true, if only you believe. Millet, a Crowley native, did not attend college until she was 30 years old. She was married with kids.
Central Catholic defeated Centerville, 49-13, in District 7-1A high school football action Thursday at Tiger Stadium in Morgan City. With the win, Central Catholic snapped a three-game losing streak.

The St. Mary Parish Council meeting on Wednesday was a showcase of new faces as a candidate for an interim appointment to the council was sworn in and a candidate for a place on the Franklin Foundation Hospital Board of Commissioners introduced herself to the council and made her case for her candidacy.

Sheriff’s academy graduates

From top left, Deputy Eriq Blanchard of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office received the Physical Fitness Award for the highest score in athletic performance; Officer Jordan Fabre of the Nicholls Police Department received the Firearms Performance (Top Gun) Award for the highest score in firearms performance; and Deputy Ryan Aucoin of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office was presented with the John Kahl Sr. Award of Excellence. This award is presented to a deputy who achieves the highest academic scores. Minster Bennie Earl Hunter, 61, a resident of Morgan City and native of Texarkana, Texas, passed away at 6:05 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, at his residence surrounded by family.
