It took police two years to finally arrest Shaneal Williams on warrants for hit and run, improper backing and no driver’s license.
The Franklin Merchants Association presents the 15th Annual Harvest Moon Festival. The festival will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Festivities will take place along Franklin’s Main Street, the Bayou Teche Scenic Byway. There is no admission fee.

Legislators: Emergency center construction to be funded

The 360-foot ship Oslo Bulk 9 being leased by PMI Nutrition International was docked at the Port of Morgan City this morning. The ship is importing salt and exporting feed ingredients from the port. The vessel first came to Morgan City in August and has made seven trips to the city so far, Port of Morgan City Executive Director Raymond “Mac” Wade said. The photo is from the Mr. Charlie rig.

Area state legislators are optimistic that construction work on the Port of Morgan City’s Government Emergency Operations Center will be fully funded by Thursday, they said Monday.

Evening of Art for Education

An Evening of Art for Education featuring dinner and a live auction will be held by Holy Cross Elementary at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, in the Petroleum Club of Morgan City. Whitney/Hancock Bank has purchased the first table for the event. Holy Cross grandparents Diane Irwin and Jan LaRocca along with Whitney employee Dean Listi Jr. are shown. The auction will feature a signed and framed George Rodrigue print titled “The Three Amigos” that is only available for sale through non-profit organizations; personalized one-of-a-kind class projects by each class, grades Pre-K3 through 6; and art masterpieces painted by each grade, Pre-K4 through 6. Also featured will be a wine pull and mystery magnums. Tickets are $50 per person or $500 per table.
