Local people who recently opened new businesses in Morgan City are hopeful and counting on the region's economy to improve in 2017. The St. Mary Chamber of Commerce held ribbon cuttings for two Morgan City businesses last week, Labco Batteries and Kimbla's Cakes.

Baldwin and Franklin both held Martin Luther King Jr. Day events Monday in honor of the slain civil rights leader. In Franklin, the event was a motorcade which began on Wall Street and proceeded up the boulevard named in honor of Dr. King, then to St. Joseph's Baptist Church. More than 60 vehicles participated in the motorcade.

Minor injuries reported in Berwick crash

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a wreck at 11:23 a.m. Tuesday on La. 182 in Berwick by Dollar General. Three occupants in a truck and car were transported to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries, Landry said. (The Daily Review/Bill Decker)
