The Broussard-Harris Committee hosted its 11th Annual Black Achievement Award Banquet Saturday, March 14 at Broussard-Harris Recreation Center. Among the 18 honorees were Thelma Phillips, above with family, and Shirley Boykins, below with family. The theme of the evening was “Dream with a Vision, Live with a Purpose.”
A locked gate may be placed toward the end of Cotten Road to prevent trash dumping and other illegal activities that may be taking place in a wooded area between the roadway and the Intracoastal Canal.

Morgan City High School placed four members of its soccer team on the All-District 7-II first team. Senior forward Irving Delgado, sophomore Brayan Aleman and defenders, sophomore Michael Mejia and senior Hector Calderon all made the elite squad.

Black Bear Festival kicks off tonight

The St. Mary Chamber of Commerce hosted a Bayou Teche Bear Festival Kick-Off Party Thursday at the Teche Theatre in Franklin. Participants were served food from several local eateries and listened to music provided by Rick Lorenzo and Mark Robicheaux. 50 years of art celebrated

Diane Martin, president of the Artists’ Guild Unlimited, is with a sculpture of Robert “Bob” Greenwood at the entrance of the show celebrating 50 years of art and artists in St. Mary Parish. The Greenwood sculpture is by Jerry Businelle of Patterson. “Reminiscing: 50 Years of Art” will be on display through April 25 from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays, at the Everett Street Gallery in Morgan City.
