Mourners file into the Church of the Assumption in Franklin today for the funeral of Mayci Breaux, 21. Breaux was one of two young women gunned down Thursday in the Lafayette Grand 16 movie theater shootings. The funeral for the second victim, Jillian Johnson of Lafayette, was scheduled for 12:30 p.m. today in that city.

FRANKLIN — Hundreds of mourners filed into the Church of the Assumption this morning for the service celebrating the life of Mayci Breaux, 21, one of two women fatally shot Thursday at The Grand 16 movie theater in Lafayette.
Dr. Vincent L. Grant, a 1985 graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham medical school will begin a new surgical practice in Franklin, according to Franklin Foundation Hospital CEO Craig Cudworth. He will occupy the offices on Northwest Boulevard that formerly housed Dr. John Osborne’s practice.

Brothers reflect on WWII service, meeting in Philippines after war

MORGAN CITY — Though Richard Romaire and Ferris Romaire served thousands of miles apart during World War II, the brothers reunited after the war ended when both were stationed in the Philippines.

Miles Liner Scholarship

The Miles Liner Foundation Patterson High School scholarship winner was Luke Larive, center. With the winner are Lynn Liner, left, and Mike Liner. The foundation’s main purpose is to keep the name of Miles Liner alive in the Tri-City area and the LSU community. Scholarships are awarded to graduates of Berwick High, Morgan City High, Patterson High and Central Catholic High schools. Larive received the $750 scholarship at the school’s May 19 awards ceremony.
