With the alligator hunting season edging toward a close, most hunters have filled their tags for the season, and wildlife officials report no citations in this region. Sidney “Peanut” Michel, of Morgan City, said he is finishing up with the last of his nearly 300 tags.
The cupboards are nearly bare at Emergency Aid-United Way of South Louisiana in Franklin. Members of Catholic Daughters 1642 and friends gave a helping hand in stocking shelves this week for the national “Day of Caring” but empty space abounds. To donate, call 337-828-0921.

Schools presented with performance plaques

Local public schools that attained an A or B school performance score from the Louisiana Department of Education in 2013 were presented with plaques in recognition of the accomplishment. The scores are derived from various academic performance related measures. In 2013, the state instituted a new scale in which schools with an A designation obtained a score between 100 to 150, and B schools are denoted by scores of 85 to 99.9. All three Berwick schools achieved A status in 2013.
