Traffic on U.S. 90 west delayed this morning after Bayou Vista wreck

U.S. 90 west at Universe Street in Bayou Vista was blocked for about an hour this morning due to a two-vehicle crash. The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting the crash at 7:23 a.m. today. The driver of a car involved in the wreck, Caston Malveaux, 59, was arrested on the charges of careless operation of motor vehicle with a crash and no insurance. Malveaux was trying to cross the U.S. 90 westbound lanes to turn onto Universe Street when he pulled in front of a pickup truck causing a crash, Sheriff’s Office Spokeswoman Traci Landry said. Malveaux was the only person transported to the hospital in the wreck, Landry said.

Birds of prey shown at FJHS

The event featured a wide variety of birds that cannot be released back into the wild for medical reasons and are thus presented to groups across the country to raise awareness of birds of prey. The presentations were made in parish schools in conjunction with last weekend’s Eagle Expo.

School closure decison delayed

CENTERVILLE — The St. Mary Parish School Board decided at a special meeting Thursday to delay voting on plans to close Hernandez and Shannon elementary for three weeks.
