A substantial amount of money was stolen at gunpoint from the Exxon gas station in the 600 block of U.S. 90 West shortly after 7:45 a.m. today, Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle said. An armed man, fully clothed and masked, brandished a revolver demanding money from the teller who complied, LaSalle said.

As Easter approaches, area clergy say the holiday is a reminder of Jesus’ death and resurrection to pay for everyone’s sins regardless of their beliefs.

The No. 25 seed Patterson Lumberjills will have little time to think about their first-round opponent in No. 8 seed Evangel Christian as the squad will meet the north Louisiana team today at 2 p.m. in Shreveport, just a day after the postseason brackets were released by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association.

Nicholls Alumni Awards for Excellence

The Nicholls State University Alumni Federation held its Alumni Awards for Excellence March 26 on the Nicholls campus in Thibodaux. The awards ceremony is held each year to honor alumni and students who have contributed to the university and their community. The 2014 Nicholls State University Hall of Fame awards also were announced at the event, which recognize students with both scholastic and service-oriented excellence.
