Franklin Hornets roll over Berwick Panthers in finale
BERWICK _ Brandon McFarlane’s 95-yard fumble recovery capped the scoring as the Franklin Senior High School Hornets rolled past the Berwick Panthers 28-0 in the District 9-3A season finale here Friday at Geisler Stadium.
Franklin (5-5, 2-4) seized control early, taking a 14-0 lead in the first quarter before padding the cushion with two more touchdowns in the second quarter for the 28-0 halftime advantage.
Franklin’s Jarion Brown scored on a 39-yard run at the 9:40 mark of the first quarter before J. Sereal scored on the two-point conversion, giving FSHS an 8-0 advantage.
Brown fired a 79-yard touchdown pass to Brennan Robinson later in the quarter, sending FSHS ahead by a 14-0 margin with 3:02 remaining in the initial period.
Franklin secured a 20-0 lead early in the second quarter when Brown connected with Allen Randle on a 59-yard scoring strike with 11:22 flashing on the clock.
During the final 35 seconds of the second period, McFarlane capped the scoring with a 95-yard fumble recovery before Brown tacked on the two-point conversion, sending Franklin to the 28-0 victory over Berwick.
Brown led the Hornets in rushing with three carries for 56 yards and one touchdown while Brian Robertson had 12 carries for 41 yards and Lashon Johnson finished with 3 totes for 30 yards.
Brown connected on 5 of 14 passes for two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Brennan Robinson had two catches for 80 yards and one score while Allen Randle caught two passes for 59 yards and one TD with Jon Dyer hauling in one pass for 18 yards.
Franklin finished the season with 5-5 overall with a 2-4 District 9-3A record.
